Description

On a dark blue drum a replica of the distinctive badge of the 3d Infantry Division, a wyvern.  This refers to the two designations by which the men of the division are popularly known -"Marne Men" and "Blue and White Devils'.  The rock represents the division's firm stand against the German offensive at the Marne River in World War I.  It was there that it became known as the "Rock of the Marne" and was the event in which Commanding General, General Joseph Dickman stated "Nous Resterons La".  The wyvern, bearing blue and silver stripes on its wing, commemorates the division's action at Anzio, Italy in World War II where they were first called "Blue and White Devils" by the enemy.  The designs shows the unit’s five campaigns in center surrounded on the sides by its World War II, the Korean War, and War on Terrorism streamers.
